Drought and the related risk of forest fires are a global concern. Here in Germany as well. The last few years have brought us hotter and hotter summers, and at the same time there has been less rain. As a result of the drought, the risk of forest fires increases considerably in many regions.

Drought and heat are also a major problem in Kurdistan. In the summer, the temperature can reach 50 degrees. Even a small spark can be sufficient for a large fire. In the refugee camps, such as Essian Camp, people live close together, usually in tents. A fire here can quickly become a danger for many. Leaders of several camps have asked Shelter Now for help to prevent this from happening. Extinguishing supplies for a total of 800 fire extinguishers were delivered to five camps. A fire extinguisher is placed on every street corner for use in case of emergency.

People are very grateful for the help. There have been two fires in the region since the distribution. One took place in Essian Camp, to which we were able to give firefighting material. Only one tent burned down, as the fire could be contained in time. Only one tent burned down, as the fire could be contained in time.
